TANA UMAGA

Born: 27.05.73
Height: 6ft 1in
Weight: 15st 9lb
Position: Centre
Club: Wellington
Caps: 52
Points: 130

One of the best centres in world rugby, Umaga has scored an impressive 27 tries in 52 outings for the All Blacks.

Although he started out as a winger, his recent appearances for New Zealand have come in the centres, and such is his stature in the game that he is the current vice-captain of the side and also the captain of his Super 12 team Wellington.

A former rugby league junior international, Jonathan Falefasa Umaga, to give him his full name, has recently had a spell at fly-half for Wellington although he is unlikely to get a start there for the international team.

Instantly recognisable with his flowing dreadlocks, Umaga came up against his elder brother Mike in a Test match in 1999. Mike was playing for Samoa.

Sure to be one of the stars of the 2003 Rugby World Cup.
