The All Blacks' first choice tight-head prop, Somerville is a former U19 and U21 representative who made his senior Test debut in June 2000 against Tonga.
With a surprising turn of pace and good hands, Somerville spent a year in South Africa on a scholarship while still at school, and has since gone on to make 28 appearances for the senior All Blacks team.
One of the most complete props in the game, Somerville is a strong scrummager with few, if any weaknesses, and is rated the best tackling prop in New Zealand, which given the competition is some honour.
An imposing figure, he turns 26 just after the tournament finishes, and will hope to get an early present by helping the All Blacks to World Cup success.
