LEON MacDONALD

Born: 21.12.77
Height: 5ft 9in
Weight: 15st 11lb
Position: Full-back
Club: Canterbury
Caps: 19
Points: 35

A full-back with a reputation as being one of the best defenders around, MacDonald is also no slouch in attack having scored seven tries in his 19 appearances for the All Blacks.

Although he started out as a fly-half for the Crusaders, he made the move to the Chiefs before returning to Christchurch and establishing himself in the No 15 jersey.

MacDonald missed the end of the 2002 season after a sickening clash of heads with Fijian flanker Koli Sewabu in an international last June, but is now fully recovered and battling for a place in the team with Mils Muliaina and Canterbury team-mate Ben Blair.

A talented cricketer, he is the fifth generation of MacDonalds to have played first-class rugby.
