DAVE HEWETT

Born: 14.07.71
Height: 6ft 3in
Weight: 18st 3lb
Position: Prop
Club: Canterbury
Caps: 16
Points: 10

A prop who made his Test debut in November 2001 against Ireland in Dublin, Hewett made an immediate impact by scoring a try shortly after coming on the field as a substitute.

He played every game for Super 12 side Canterbury this season, although more than half his appearances came off the bench.

Scored a try in John Mitchell's first match in charge of the All Blacks, a 64-10 thumping of Italy in Hamilton, but this 6ft 3in man mountain is more important to his side using his tackling and scrimmaging ability.

Is set to start the World Cup campaign for the All Blacks alongside fellow prop and Canterbury team-mate Greg Somerville.

Spent three years in Hungary as a teenager, and is a cousin of former All Black half-back Jason Hewett.
