Braid followed in the footsteps of his father Gary when he made his All Blacks debut against Wales in November 2002.

Gary played two Tests for the All Blacks in 1983, so Daniel has a chance to match that in the World Cup after making his debut in Cardiff.

Braid was a keen junior boxer but soon turned his attentions to rugby, going on to captain the New Zealand U19 side to world championship victory in France in 2000 as well as representing the U21's in the World Cup.

A knee injury slowed him down at the start of the season, but his selection in the All Blacks World Cup squad capped a fine finish, as he also scored a try in the Super 12 final where his Blues outfit defeated the Crusaders 21-17.

Unlikely to see too much game time in Australia, but will learn from the experience.
