THOMPSON TO MARRY

World Cup-winner Steve Thompson is to be married, after proposing to his girlfriend within hours of England's victory over Australia.

Thompson got down on one knee on Manly beach in Sydney to ask Fiona McArthur to marry him.

Thankfully for the 25-year-old England front row, the answer was yes.

His 24-year-old fiancee told talkSport radio: "It was yesterday morning just as I was leaving to come back here.

"It was perfect; it was lovely.

"He proposed at 8.15am, and I left at 8.30am.

"I said yes. I have got a ring on my finger. It's platinum with a nice big diamond on it. It's gorgeous.

"I just want to see him. I can't wait for him to come home."

The couple have yet to set a date for their wedding.
