PATERSON COLLECTS WORLD CUP AWARD

Chris Paterson has been voted Scotland's best player of the World Cup by team sponsors The Famous Grouse.

Paterson was an ever-present in the Scots' campaign which ended in gallant defeat to Australia in the quarter-finals.

He was used in three different positions by coach Ian McGeechan - left wing, right wing and stand-off - and contributed 71 points to the Scottish cause.

Paterson said: "I'm delighted. The World Cup was obviously a huge event and to play five back-to-back internationals on successive weekends was a major test.

" While I would have obviously preferred to still be in Australia at this stage, it was an achievement to reach the quarter-finals and this award reflects that."
