Former Fiji international Apolosi Satala reckons Scotland will have to defend
at their best to have any chance of overcoming his fellow countrymen in their
crunch World Cup match on Saturday.
The Scots take on the South Sea Islanders in their final match in Pool B and
must win to qualify for the quarter-finals.
Coach Ian McGeehan has named an attacking line up to face the Fijians, having
watched his side lose to France 51-9 last Saturday.
Bath winger Simon Danielli has been called upon to bolster Scotland's threat
going forward, while Kenny Logan will start on the opposite flank.
But Satala believes the fact McGeehan has opted for attacking players will
work in Fiji's favour.
He said: "Simon Danielli and Kenny Logan will have to be on their toes
against Fiji on the wings because that's where they are most effective.
"If Fiji want to win the game, they have to play an open game - but if
Scotland want to win they will have to play it tight.
"I have no doubt that Fiji will take advantage of the fact that Scotland have
named quite an attacking line-up.
"Fiji have to take the game to Scotland if they want to win and Scotland must
make sure they protect every area of the pitch.
"Once you give space to them, they will punish you - especially on the wings
and Scotland have to make sure they leave no gaps.
"Scotland have to win the game if they wan to qualify for the next round, so
they will try and get as many points on the board as possible."
Controversial Fiji winger Rupeni Caucau is set to return after serving a
two-match ban for striking French player Olivier Magne in their opening match
and is sure to cause problems for Scots.
Caucau is regarded as one of the best attacking players in the world, but
Satala admits Fiji will have to keep their discipline if they are to frustrate
the Scots.
He added: "I think the game could be decided on penalties.
"Fiji will be very strong and physical, but at the same time they will have
to be very disciplined if they want to win this game.
"Before kick-off there will be a strong talk from the coach and the captain
and they will tell the players that they have to keep focused throughout."
