WATERSTON FACING PROBE

Namibian coach Dave Waterston is facing an IRB investigation into comments
about Australian referee Andrew Cole following Sunday's defeat by Ireland.
Waterston was annoyed with Cole's performance and claimed that in order to
officiate in big games, referees had to 'lick the backsides of the bigger
nations'.
This statement has not gone down well with the IRB, who will have discussions
with World Cup tournament director Fraser Neill the possibility of taking action
against Waterston.
"We are now considering what action we will be taking," confirmed IRB press
officer Chris Rae.
"Clearly that statement was unacceptable and highly inappropriate.
"We will be contacting Namibia and I will be speaking to Fraser Neill about
where we proceed from here."
Meanwhile, Rae confirmed that a final decision on whether Ireland lock Paul
O'Connell would be cited for his robust rucking of opposite number Archie Graham
at Aussie Stadium would be made later on Monday.
Indications are that O'Connell, who is celebrating his 24th birthday, will
escape without punishment.
