The Wellington-born flanker forms an impressive double act with fellow Kiwi Matt Phillips when both are selected in the back row for Italy.
Made his debut for the national side - whom he represents thanks to Italian grandparents - in 2000 against Scotland and has been a regular in the squad ever since.
Persico joined Zurich Premiership club Leeds in the summer after impressing in the Six Nations and allies an impressive work-rated with the ability to play all around the back row.
