FABIEN PELOUS

Born: 07.12.73
Height: 6ft 6in
Weight: 17st
Position: Lock
Club: Toulouse
Caps: 79
Points: 30

After five years on the international scene, Pelous was made France's new captain just before the start the 2000 Six Nations tournament.

Many felt it was a strange decision, not because they doubted Pelous' ability, but because the no-nonsense Pelous was chosen as the standard-bearer of coach Bernard Laporte's attempt to clean up French rugby.

He lost the captaincy two years later, but during his time in control he led by example and was exemplary on the pitch.

An outstanding forward, Pelous goes about his job - in one of the least attractive roles - with the minimum of fuss and to the maximum effect.
