WORLD CUP IRELAND
Picture Sheahan - fought ban to secure World Cup spot.

FRANK SHEAHAN

Born: 27.08.76
Height: 5ft 11in
Weight: 16st 1lb
Position: Hooker
Club: Munster
Caps: 13
Points: 5

Had to go as far as an ERC appeals panel to ensure his eligibility for the World Cup after he was initially banned for two years following a positive test for Salbutamol after Munster's clash with Toulouse in April.

The big hooker drew attention to both his asthma and severe dehydration on the afternoon of the match and his ban was eventually reduced to just three months, allowing him to take his place in the squad.

Having put that saga behind him, Munster No 2 Sheahan will be looking to enjoy the World Cup, much of which he is likely to spend on the sidelines.

With Keith Wood and Shane Byrne his competition for the hooker's spot, he is unlikely to get much game time – as his caps haul of 13 in three years shows – but after his rollercoaster ride in the last six months, Sheahan will not be complaining.
