Having spent the early years of his Ireland career on bench duty, Humphreys sprung to prominence when he captained Ulster to their Heineken Cup victory.
As if that were not enough, he then cemented himself in the Ireland side during the World Cup in 1999
Yet despite occasionally captaining the national side and being his country's most-capped fly-half, Humphreys has never really seen off the threat as Ronan O'Gara well enough to be considered an automatic first choice No 10.
The majority of his 460 points have come from the boot, but if the tryline is there, Humphreys will go for it.
