WORLD CUP IRELAND
Picture Dempsey - brilliant full-back.

GIRVAN DEMPSEY

Born: 02.10.75
Height: 6ft 2in
Weight: 14st
Position: Full-back/Wing
Club: Leinster
Caps: 38
Points: 50

This brilliant full-back produced a man of the match performance as Ireland beat Argentina in the Lansdowne Road mud in the autumn.

A former Ireland Under-21 star, he made his senior international debut, scoring two tries, as a second-half replacement for Conor O'Shea in 1998.

A year later he made his Six Nations debut against France and toured Australia later that year.

Injury forced him out of the 1999 World Cup but he was back in the Ireland side 12 months later and has been a regular feature ever since.

Solid in defence and a thrilling runner, Dempsey is one of the reasons why Ireland are such feared opponents and after missing out last time around, he will be relishing his World Cup debut.
