WORLD CUP WALES
Picture Llewellyn - tough lock forward.

GARETH LLEWELLYN

Born: 27.02.69
Height: 6ft 6in
Weight: 17st 7lb
Position: Lock
Club: Neath-Swansea Ospreys
Caps: 79
Points: 24

The most capped Welsh forward in history and widely respected throughout the game, Llewellyn is one of the toughest lock forwards in the business.

He made his international debut in Wales' 34-9 defeat to New Zealand in Cardiff in 1989 alongside Phil Davies, who is now coaching Leeds Tykes.

Good in the line-out and tough in defence, Llewellyn has continued to churn out quality performances despite his side struggling in recent years.

After a brief spell in the wilderness he returned to the Welsh squad for the 2002 Six Nations where his experience provide invaluable.

Now entering the veteran stage of his career and under pressure from younger players, the former Harelquins star knows he has to produce consistent performances to retain his place in the side.

That is the sort of challenge this fierce competitor relishes.
