The younger brother of Australia lock Matt Cockbain, Brent made his Wales debut just five days before their World Cup squad was named.
The 28-year-old qualified under the residency rule earlier this year and a string of quality performances for Pontypridd earnt him his international call-up.
He then did enough in his debut against Romania to edge out the 36-cap Chris Wyatt and make the 30-man squad.
A typically hard-working second row, Cockbain is famed for his ability to steal line-out ball and will be looking forward to the chance to finally make an impact at international level.
