McLaren is the international jet-setter in the Scotland squad having played his rugby in Australia and now France as well as his homeland.

After playing schoolboy rugby in Australia - where he moved at the age of seven - McLaren returned to Scotland to play for Stirling County and Glasgow Under-21s.

But he was soon heading back Down Under, where he switched to the 13-a-side game and earned a contract with Canberra Raiders.

He returned to north of the border in 1996 and within two years had represented Scotland A for the first time.

A move to France to Bourgoin followed and although he returned to Scotland - with Glasgow - he is now back on French shores having joined Aviron Bayonnais this summer.

Having made his senior Scotland debut in the run-up to the last World Cup, McLaren has valuable experience of rugby's showpiece event and the physical centre will relish the battle Down Under.
