Having made his first Scotland start in the 2002 Test win over Fiji, Hinshelwood's haul of five caps will be something of a disappointment.
The Worcester man missed the whole of the 2003 Six Nations due to a broken leg but returned to the international arena against Italy earlier this year.
Hinshelwood has been linked with moves to the Zurich Premiership on a regular basis since joining Worcester two years ago and is undoubtedly one of the best players outside the top-flight in England.
The son of former Scotland wing Sandy Hinshelwood, Melbourne-born Ben returns Down Under with plenty to prove having failed to craft a career in the Australian game.
