JOOST VAN DER WESTHUIZEN

Born: 20.02.71
Height: 6ft 2in
Weight: 14st 4lb
Position: Scrum-half
Club: Bulls
Caps: 85
Points: 175

His country's most-capped player, Van der Westhuizen will become the first South African to play in three World Cups.

In 85 Test matches the half-back has crossed for 35 tries, and he has been more or less South Africa's first choice since making his debut back in November 1993 against Argentina.

However the former Springboks skipper lost his place earlier in the season to Craig Davidson, and there was even some doubt he would be picked for the World Cup.

A former Junior Springbok, he was a key part of the 1995 World Cup winning team, and also skippered the side to third place in 1999.

Has fought his way back into the team, and although he has come under fire from some quarters back home he is sure to lead South Africa from the front in Australia.

As well as being South Africa's most-capped player he has also easily scored the most Test tries for his country.
