The surprise call-up to South Africa's squad, Rossouw can play in the second row or the back row.
The only player selected in the squad who was not part of a 40-man training camp in Pretoria, he was however selected for the Springbok to tour Europe and the USA in 2001, but had to pull out two days before the team set off due to injury.
A teacher by profession, he plays for the Blues in the Super 12 competition.
He was moved from flank to lock in the Currie Cup this year, but was recently found guilty of punching and had a suspension that only ends less than a month before the start of the World Cup.
Unlikely to see too much game time, despite his versatility.
