A former A team representative, tight-head prop Rautenbach plays his Super 12 rugby for the Stormers.

A superb Super 12 series in 2002 meant he was soon elevated into the senior Springboks squad, making his debut in June against Wales when he came on the field as a replacement and scored a late try.

Just a month later, though, the former hooker was diagnosed with a stress fracture of the back, and although he fought back to full fitness early this year, a serious ankle injury suffered in the Super 12 competition sidelined him again.

However he was selected in a 40-man squad, along with four other injured players, for a training squad, and did enough there to show he could handle the rigours of a World Cup campaign.
