Delport left South Africa in 2002 with his international career seemingly over, and made the move to England to play for Gloucester.

There he played in this year's Zurich Premiership Final defeat to Wasps, and was then called up to represent South Africa's A team against Argentina.

He was soon back in the senior squad, making his way back into this year's Tri-Nations squad and wearing the number 15 jersey in South Africa's last Test outing before the World Cup, a defeat at the hands of New Zealand.

Available to play for South Africa after Gloucester and the South African rugby officials agreed to a loan arrangement for the remainder of the year which meant he was able to play for the Falcons in the Currie Cup play-offs.
