SELBORNE BOOME

Born: 16.04.75
Height: 6ft 5in
Weight: 16st 8lb
Position: Lock
Club: Stormers
Caps: 7
Points: 15

A mobile forward, 28-year-old Boome spent two years with French club Montferrand before returning home in 2002 in order to challenge for a World Cup squad place.

He impressed so much in just his second year in Super 12 rugby, 1999, that he was soon involved in the Springbok side, but missed out on the World Cup through injury.

Captained the Stomers in the Super 12 competition this season in the absence of Corne Krige, he made his Test debut in June 1999 against Italy.

Probably owes his place to the much-publicised absence of Geo Cronje and Quinton Davids, and is likely to get a place in the starting line-up should injury hit first-choices Victor Matfield and Bakkies Botha.
