Bands made his Test debut this season, but already the 29-year-old prop has provided one of the moments of the campaign.

Picking the ball up some 45 metres out in the Tri-Nations Test match against New Zealand in August, he went for the line, outpacing Justin Marshall before running over the top of Carlos Spencer for a magical try.

Yet Bands was nearly lost to the game, as he made his first class-debut in 1994, but after just one game he decided to quit and go back to his father's farm.

Having deciding to give rugby a go after all, he returned in 2001 and made his second first-class appearance seven years after his first.

And for the past two seasons he has been in superb form for the Bulls in the Super 12 competition, and made his Test debut earlier this year against Scotland.
