A former South African Under-21 star, Vickerman - who was born in Cape Town - settled in Australia in 2000 and broke into the ACT Brumbies starting line-up from the opening match of the 2002 season.

He soon established himself in Super 12 rugby, starting in every match for the Brumbies, and was selected for the Australia A team before making his Wallaby Test debut against France in the same year.

Since then he has gone on to make 11 appearances for his adopted country, but with David Giffin seemingly assured of one of the lock positions and Nathan Sharpe in fine form, he faces a battle for a starting spot.

An aggressive forward, Vickerman surprised many in the Australian game when he decided to join the NSW Waratahs next season, signing a three-year deal.
