Position: Number Eight/Flanker
Club: Queensland Reds
Caps: 0
Points: 0

A former Australian Sevens representative, John Roe owes his call-up to the injury to Queensland Reds team-mate Toutai Kefu.

Yet despite probably not being in the original thinking for Australia's squad, Roe has emerged as a potential starting number eight in Kefu's absence, even though he plays as a blindside flanker for the Reds when Kefu plays.

A specialist number eight, he shone in this year's Super 12 and was selected on the A team tour of Japan, eventually winning selection for Australia's World Cup squad ahead of ACT Brumbies forward Scott Fava.

A mobile forward, he is likely to start behind David Lyons in the race for Kefu's place but it would be no surprise to see him on the bench as Australia get their title defence under way.
