A squad player whose remains on the fringes of the Wallaby team, Lyons made his international debut in June 2000 against Argentina and now has14 caps in his collection.
After making his debut in the two domestic Tests against Argentina, he lost his position when Toutai Kefu returned from injury.
Lyons came into the game late at the age of 15 but his talent was soon spotted and in 1998 he skippered the Australian Schoolboys on their undefeated tour of the UK.
Following that tour he was chased by scouts from rugby league but instead signed with the NSW Waratahs.
He showed great form in the 2002 Super 12 season, but then injured himself training before the Wallabies Spring Tour.
The injury meant he went into this season having not started a match for eight months, but he has slowly and surely started to get back to his best.
Although he is unlikely to be a first-choice starter, Lyons will be a key player coming off the bench for the Wallabies.
