MATT COCKBAIN

Born: 19.09.72
Height: 6ft 5in
Weight: 17st
Position: Flanker/Lock
Club: Queensland Reds
Caps: 56
Points: 5

A member of Australia's 1999 World Cup-winning team, Cockbain was seemingly on the outer when he missed out on selection in the 24-man squad for the game against Ireland in early June.

Instead the 6ft 5in forward found himself captaining an Australia A side on a two-match tour of Japan, but on his return injuries to forwards Toutai Kefu and Daniel Heenan meant Cockbain was added to the Wallaby squad for the Tri-Nations clash with New Zealand.

That put the Queensland lock, who has 56 Test caps, back in contention for a World Cup place, only for him then to be sent home after showing the symptoms of chicken pox.

He did not play rugby until he was 16 but within two years had won state honours by representing Queensland Country under-19s.

Despite breaking a cheekbone in 1997 Cockbain went on to even greater heights by winning his first Test cap against France as a replacement.
