The USA's most capped player, lock Gross made his debut back in 1996 against Ireland.
He has since gone on to represent his country 56 times, and it is no surprise that at an imposing 6ft 10in tall he is a former basketball star who for Indiana State University and Marshall University.
He has played professionally with Harlequins in England and both Rovigo and Roma in Italy, but now plays for Llanelli in Wales alongside compatriot Dave Hodges.
Gross played all three games in the 1999 World Cup, and will play a key role for the Eagles in Australia.
