A former forward, Powell now stars in the centre and is rugged in defence and useful in attack.

A qualified doctor, his younger brothers Neil and Jimmy have both played for the Cats in the Super 12 competition, and in last year's IRB Sevens tournament in Dubai he came up against Neil who was the South Africa vice-captain.

Strangely replaced as Namibia's captain despite leading them for the last two seasons and through the qualifiers, Powell will be required to show all his leadership qualities despite losing his official status as the team's skipper.

Also played for Namibia's team the Welwitschias in South Africa's 2001 Vodacom Cup competition.
