RUDI VAN VUUREN

Born: 20.09.72
Position: Fly-half/Centre
Club: Wanderers RC

Van Vuuren is a fine all-round rugby player with good ability and superb kicking skills.

The scorer of 47 points in his first four Tests, the 31-year-old was in Namibia's 1999 World Cup squad, and although he prefers the fly-half role it seems he is set for a position in the centres.

A qualified doctor, van Vuuren was born in Namibia but raised in South Africa, and turned his back on a career as a professional sportsman to concentrate on his work.

He opened the bowling for Namibia at this year's cricket World Cup, playing in every game and taking five wickets against England in Port Elizabeth, as well as hitting James Anderson for six from the last ball of the innings.

That effort meant he became only the fourth bowler from a non-Test playing nation to take a five-wicket haul in one-day internationals, and he is the only man to have played in both the rugby and cricket World Cups.
