DIEGO AGUIRRE

Born: 23.09.74
Position: Centre
Club: Monte Ciencias

The skipper of Los Teros, Aguirre played in all three matches of Uruguay's 1999 World Cup campaign, finishing his team's top-scorer.

A former fly-half, Aguirre now plays in the inside centre position.

Having made his international debut in 1994, he is a reliable goalkicker who took over the captaincy after the 1999 World Cup when Diego Ormaechea, who is now Uruguay's coach, retired.

One of only a handful of Uruguay's squad playing overseas, he plays for the Monte Ciencias club in Spain.
