OLIVIER MAGNE

Born: 11.04.73
Height: 6ft 2in
Weight: 15st
Position: Flanker
Club: Montferrand
Caps: 66
Points: 55

Magne's lionhearted performances have earned him the nickname from his team-mates of "Charly" meaning Charlemagne, the first-ever Holy Roman Emperor who is seen as one of the founders of European civilisation.

His rampaging style makes him the perfect back row forward and he can perform at flanker or at numer eight.

Born in Aurillac in France's rugby heartland in 1973, he is a formidable tackler and has been a regular with Les Bleus since winning his first cap against Wales back in 1997.

He gave up a potentially glittering skiing career at the age of 17 to concentrate on his rugby, a decision that has been rewarded in some style.

The fear of disciplinary problems are always bubbling away under the surface but take aggression away from his game and France would undoubtedly suffer.
