One of the stars of Australian rugby, Smith has created a reputation for himself as being one of the most intuitive players in the game.

In 1998 Smith was still was playing Colts football for Manly, but made quite an impression when he joined the senior ranks.

Blessed with speed around the ruck and an impressive continuity to his play, he was a member of the Australian Under-21 squad before making his senior debut against France in November 2000.

Smith was awarded the John Eales Medal last season, determined by votes cast after each international, and is one of the first names on Eddie Jones' team-sheet.

Normally a open-side flanker, Smith has bulked up and played in the blindside flanker position in this season's Tri-Nations, scoring his second Test match try in a superb performance against New Zealand at Eden Park.
