STEPHEN LARKHAM

Born: 29.05.74
Height: 6ft 2in
Weight: 13st 9lb
Position: Fly-half
Club: ACT Brumbies
Caps: 59
Points: 82

Larkham had one of the most difficult tasks in world rugby when he stepped into the shoes of the legendary Michael Lynagh.

But since making his debut in 1996 against Wales he has gone on to represent his country 59 times and is regarded as one of the world's best players.

Originally a full-back, Larkham switched to fly-half and will always be remembered for his long-range drop goal to seal victory over South Africa in extra time of the 1999 World Cup semi-final. Remarkably it was his first drop goal at international level, and he is yet to repeat the feat.

Larkham, known to all as 'Bernie' after the film 'Weekend at Bernie's', missed Australia's first three Tests of the year with a dislocated left elbow, and has come under fire since his return for what the critics see as an aimless kicking game.

While he again struggled in that department in his last outing – against New Zealand in Auckland – his running game looked sharp, and he remains a player to be watched at the World Cup.
