Creative scrum-half Redpath has become one of the mainstays of the Scotland team in a career that began back in 1993 against the All Blacks.

In 10 years he has accumulated 55 caps for his country - he was born in Galashields in Scotland's rugby-mad Borders area - and has become an inspirational captain.

He made a fine comeback after injury forced him to miss the 1999 Five Nations, returning to the international arena on the tour to South Africa later that year.

A veteran of the 1995 World Cup, where he played in three of the four matches, he played two seaons in France with Narbonne before joining Sale Sharks.

Attracted the attentions of Leicester last summer but opted to stay at Heywood Road, where he remains a key figure - as he is for Scotland.
