London-born Smith is considered one of the best props in international rugby.
He suffers from epilepsy and began his international career relatively late at the age of 25.
Smith had a stint in France with Brive but perhaps his career highlight came in 1997 with the British Lions on their victorious tour of South Africa.
He was named Scotland Player of the Season for 2000-20011 and later that year played in all three Tests on the British and Irish Lions tour of Australia.
A battle-hardened front-row who loves a scrap.
