MARTIN JOHNSON CLOCKWATCH

1 min: Makes the first tackle of the final as he clatters into Elton Flatley.

4 min: Johnson claims good lineout ball and Mike Tindall gets good distance with his resultant kick. However, play is called back because of a Trevor Woodman punch in the earlier ruck.

11 min: Appears to have won back possession for England but Neil Back is penalised for tackling on his knees and not on his feet.

21 min: Johnson's crunching tackle causes Nathan Sharpe to spill the ball forward - England put in at the scrum.

27 min: Johnson joins forces with the rest of the England pack to drive forward from a scrum towards the tryline. The Australian flankers are penalised for breaking off and England opt to kick for goal - Jonny Wilkinson makes it 9-5.

42 min: Claims possession when Ben Kay deflects the lineout ball to him. The ball is recycled to Tindall, whose crossfield kick finds touch on the halfway line.

43 min: Reads the Australian lineout and cleverly steals the ball back and is twice involved with the ball in hand as England work the ball left.

52 min: A huge leap and deflection from Johnson secures lineout ball and England move it left. However, England are penalised for obstruction and Flatley kicks for goal, but is just short of the posts.

54 min: Johnson makes a clean lineout catch after another immense jump. When the ball emerges from a driving maul, he is involved in a quickfire passing exchange which ends with Josh Lewsey being tackled just over the halfway line.

68 min: Receives the ball but slips as he tries to move outside. Still manages to set the ball up to keep the attack going and Will Greenwood is only denied a try as Mat Rogers makes a desperate soccer-style sliding tackle in a race to the tryline.

73 min: Tackles opposing skipper George Gregan as Australian pressure mounts.

81 min: Johnson fouled as he jumps to claim the lineout ball, Wilkinson kicks a penalty from just inside the Australian half - and makes it. Score is now Australia 14 England 17.

88 min: Another superb lineout claim and the ball is moved wide left but Iain Balshaw is just outnumbered on the wing.

95 min: More fierce tackling as Australia push for a trophy-winning try. England are then punished for hands in the ruck, Flatley levels the scores at 17-17.

100: Johnson involved as England burst forward again. The ball eventually recycled to Wilkinson whose drop goal with 20 seconds left wins the match.
