 SIX NATIONS ENGLAND
Picture Kay - combines brains and brawn.

Ben Kay

Born: 14.12.75
Height: 6ft 6in
Weight: 17st 9lb
Position: Lock
Club: Leicester
Caps: 32
Points: 10

One of the most improved players in the game, Kay forced his way into the England side amid fierce competition to take his place at lock alongside the totemic Martin Johnson.

Favoured for his combination of brains and brawn, he was unlucky that his most memorable contribution to England's World Cup campaign was squandering a crucial try-scoring opportunity in the final against Australia.

However, his strength and reliability have made him a consistent selection of Sir Clive Woodward.

Doubts were raised about the effectiveness of his line-out calling after the shambles against Ireland, but all the evidence points to it being a one-off.
