 SIX NATIONS ANALYSIS
Picture Horgan - key Irish player. (Allsport)

SHANE HORGAN

Having priogressed through the Irish Youth and Under 21 sides, Horgan won his first full cap against Scotland in February 2000 and he marked the occasion by scoring his first international try.

2001 marked his real breakthrough year with Six Nations apeparances against Scotland, Wales and England.

Injury hit him hard in last year's tournament as he was on the sidelines for the clashes with Wales and England before returning to face Scotland, Ireland and France.

Hopes that would mark the start of a run in the side were dashed by another injury which kept him out of the side to face Australia in November.

A fit Shane Horgan is a player more than capable of making an impact at this level with his pace and strength a potent combination.

He will be looking to make up for lost time - injury permitting - once the action gets under way.
