Edd Thrower, only called up because regular choice Paul Sackey is on international duty with England, grabbed four tries as Wasps cruised to victory.

The right-winger's third touchdown in the 50th minute secured the bonus point against a Bath side who did not trouble the Wasps defence until late in the game.

The other Wasps tries came from centre Fraser Waters, full-back Mark Van Gisbergen and 19-year-old prospect Danny Cipriani, who marked his first-team debut with a 75-metre interception try.

Van Gisbergen also contributed a conversion and a penalty with second-half replacement Dave Walder landing two conversions and one penalty.

Bath replied with late tries from flanker James Scaysbrook and right-wing Michael Stephenson, and two penalties and a conversion from fly-half Chris Malone.

Scrum-half Simon Amor, the former England Sevens captain, produced a man-of-the-match performance orchestrating the dangerous Wasps back line in which powerful centre Ayoola Erinle caused Bath problems.

Wasps opened their account in the 12th minute when fly-half Alex King and number eight Joe Worsley combined to send Waters in from close range.

Five minutes later Thrower scored the first of his three tries, finishing in the right-hand corner after Erinle split open the Bath defence.

Taking a pass from Amor, Erinle dummied and straightened up before timing his release perfectly for Van Gisbergen to hand on to Thrower.

Wasps' third try came when Bath paid the penalty for a botched drop-out by Eliota Fuimaono.

The Samoan centre kicked the ball straight into the midriff of Wasps prop Tim Payne and the home side moved the ball quickly along the line to put Thrower over.

Thrower completed his hat-trick in the 50th minute with another simple run-in after Amor burst 60 metres.

Bath launched a late revival attempt but Thrower also showed his defensive capabilities, thwarting their best chance so far when he bundled French winger David Bory into touch by the corner flag.

The efforts of the visitors were finally rewarded in the 68th minute when Scaysbrook powered in for a try.

Three minutes later Bath introduced former Great Britain rugby league star Chev Walker from the bench, in place of centre Tom Cheeseman, but the convert's first touch of the ball was a knock-on and he had little chance to impress.

Wasps came again with Walder supplying the final pass for Van Gisbergen's try before Cipriani announced his arrival with his spectacular score.

Bath retaliated with Stephenson running in their second try but Wasps, fittingly, had the final say when Thrower went over in the right-hand corner for the fourth time.
