Gloucester ran in 16 tries against a humiliated Bucuresti side at Kingsholm
on Saturday.
The Cherry and Whites jogged in five tries to lead 35-3 at halftime, but
twisted the knife with a superb 71-point effort in the second spell.
England winger James Simpson-Daniel bagged four of them, with outside-half
Ludovic Mercier converting 10 before being replaced by Simon Amor, who added
another three.
Bucuresti were out-classed in every aspect of the game, and the only positive
they could take out of it was that they avoided a repeat of the 151-0 loss to
Saracens three years ago.
With outside backs Simpson-Daniel, Rob Thirlby and Marcel Garvey scoring eight
tries between them, the Romanian side thought they had avoided a 100-point
defeat, but Welsh referee Tim Hayes had other ideas.
With the score at 99-3 and time almost up on the clock, Hayes awarded a
penalty try to the home side - much to the bemusement of 7,500 fans at
Kingsholm.
