An injury-time penalty from Glen Jackson saw Saracens claim a narrow 21-20
victory at Northampton.
With the home side leading 20-18 going into the closing minutes, Jackson
struck the kick from just inside his own half.
And when Shane Drahm saw an effort strike the crossbar from just inside his
own half, referee Steve Lander then blew his whistle to end the game.
Sarries' second-succussive away win was built on tries from Kyran Bracken and
Dan Harris.
The visitors started the first half slowly and Shane Drahm gave the home side
the lead with a penalty after four minutes when Cobus Visagie was penalised.
Saints went further ahead when Bruce Reihana powered forward to create a gap
for Paul Diggin to burst over the line, and Drahm converted.
Jackson's penalty finally got the visitors on the scoreboard and Drahm saw his
kick drift wide before Saracens hit back strongly with a 70-metre break.
The pressure eventually told when Bracken went over under the posts. Jackson
converted to make it 10-10 at the break.
Saints started the second half fired up and regained the lead on 50 minutes.
From a catch and drive on the Saracens 10 metre line, Corne Krige was at the
back of the rolling maul to touch down, with Drahm converting.
Jackson hit back with a penalty before the visitors took the lead. Tevita
Vaikona set up the score with a cross-field run to release Mark Bartholomeusz.
He fed Johnston on the wing who made it to the line before passing inside to Dan
Harris to score in the corner.
The lead changed hands again after 70 minutes and this time it was the home
side who got on the scoresheet with a Drahm penalty to make it 20-18 going into
the final 10 minutes.
But with time running out, Jackson struck a penalty from just inside the
Saints half to give Saracens the lead.
With almost the last kick of the game, Drahm's penalty from inside his own
half hit the crossbar but Saracens cleared the danger to hang on for a gritty
win.
