Harlequins remain bottom of the Zurich Premiership after Wasps took the win and bonus point to keep them in contention at the top of the table.

Wasps went into the game at The Stoop nine points behind leaders Leicester and knew every point would be vital.

Wasps bossed most of the early play as the home side did not really get into the game until late in the first period.

The visitors' scrum-half Matt Dawson scored the opening try of the match in the fourth minute and Mark van Gisbergen added the conversion.

There was no more scoring until the 30th minute when van Gisbergen made it 10-0 with a penalty which had been awarded when Quins made a mess of a scrum, which captain Andre Vos protested against in vain.

A poor restart from the 22 gifted Wasps their next score, with Josh Lewsey touching down although this time van Gisbergen missed the conversion.

A 40th-minute Jeremy Staunton penalty, after Lawrence Dallaglio was penalised for killing the ball on the ground, saw Harlequins on the board.

The move followed a break by Staunton as Dallaglio came in with a desperate cover tackle.

Wasps opened the second half with a dramatic try, from the restart, with a driving run from flanker Joe Worsley.

He offloaded to van Gisbergen for the third try and his conversion made it 22-3,

Wasps had several more scoring opportunities and continued to dominate proceedings, but they seemed to lose their focus at crucial stages.

One such move proved costly as it broke down just metres short of the Quins line and saw the home side score their first try of the match.

Andy Reay - on for Staunton - made the break for a move which saw Simon Keogh slipping a tackle and going over for a 71st-minute try, but Reay could not add the extras.

Dawson scored the bonus-point try in the 79th minute and there was a consolation score for Quins by winger George Harder.
