Tom Varndell scored a second-half hat-trick as Leicester ran in six tries in
total to crush Worcester.
First-half tries from scrum-half Scott Bemand, flanker Neil Back and winger
Austin Healey gave Tigers a 17-6 interval lead against the Premiership
newcomers.
Varndell, playing only his second match for the Tigers, then took over with
three tries in 12 second-half minutes as the visitors ran out comfortable
winners.
The home side had made all the early running to move into a deserved 6-0
lead.
Leicester coach John Wells had warned his players about Worcester's powerful
pack and they duly got stuck in from the outset, fly-half Tommy Hayes slotting
two penalties after their early pressure.
However, Leicester eventually got back into their stride and there was never
any doubt about the result once they opened their account.
"We came here with a lot of respect for Worcester, we expected a right
ding-dong game and we certainly got that in those first 10-15 minutes," Wells
told the club's official website, www.leicestertigers.com.
"Once we scored that second try the game opened up and certainly in the
second half we ended up running away with it."
Leicester secured the bonus point while Worcester's latest signing, Paul
Sampson, scored the Warriors only try, late in the second half, following a
period of sustained pressure.
