England prop Julian White returned to action following knee surgery and marked
the occasion with a try as Leicester breezed to an emphatic win over the
Barbarians on Wednesday night.
Tigers fly-half Jaco Van der Westhuyzen played the starring role on a night
when there were 14 tries to keep a Welford Road crowd of 10,000 plus happy.
A barnstorming try from Adam Balding got Leicester under way, before the
number eight had to leave the field injured.
Irish star Geordan Murphy, in his first start of the season after a broken
leg, raced over for the second score - swiftly followed by White's touchdown.
Samoan hooker Trevor Leota barged over for the Barbarians.
But wing John Holtby crossed for Tigers, form whom van der Westhuyzen,
full-back Andy Goode and centre Glenn Gelderbloom all touched down too on the
way to a 45-7 interval lead.
The second half got under way with Holtby pouncing for his second try under
the posts after some panicky defence.
Gelderbloom soon grabbed his second too, but former England wing Tom Beim
countered with a touchdown for the Barbarians.
Replacement scrum-half Alex Wright crossed too after a James Hamilton break -
but the Baa-baas had the last say when Saracens' French wing Denis Cech waltzed
over.
