Glasgow salvaged a large slice of pride with one of their greatest ever
performances as they hammered Saracens but it could not keep them in Europe.
Even their most ardent fans had branded their task mission impossible in the
wake of their 37-6 Parker Pen Cup hammering by the Londoners.
But they responded in heroic style in the second leg at Hughenden, only to
fall just three points short of pulling off a remarkable salvage job.
Glasgow made their intentions clear from the start, pinning the English side
back in their own danger zone and that set the pattern.
Their tries came from Andy Henderson, Rory Kerr and skipper Cammy Mather, with
the kicks being shared by Dan Parks and Calvin Howarth.
Ben Skirving notched the only Saracens score.
Glasgow threw everything at Sarries in the tense dying stages, but could not
make the breakthrough that mattered most.
Their frustrations were underlined when Gareth Maclure knocked on as he went
for a quick tapped penalty just five metres from the line.
