Celtic Warriors caused a Heineken Cup upset when they brought Wasps' two-month
unbeaten run to an end at the Causeway Stadium.
The Welsh team were not daunted and took the game to Wasps in the rain-soaked
conditions.
Wasps now face a crucial away game at the Brewery Fields next weekend, which
they will have to win to keep on track for the quarter-finals after slipping to
third in the table.
Welsh fly-half Ceri Sweeney helped kick Celtic Warriors to victory with three
penalties but it was the Warriors aggressiveness at the breakdown that prevented
Wasps from finding any rhythm.
Wasps were 6-0 down after 12 minutes and it took near to the half-hour mark
before they were able to string together any sort of attack.
Fly-half Alex King set up an attacking line-out dangerously close to the
Warriors line but Wasps squandered the chance after losing their own line-out.
Warriors hooker Mefin Davies was sent to the sin-bin but even with the one-man
advantage Wasps still trailed 6-0 at the break.
A 47th-minute penalty from King put three points on the scoreboard for the
home side but Sweeney booted the Warriors 9-3 ahead 15 minutes later.
King replied minutes later and then slotted another penalty to even the scores
for the first time with just nine minutes of injury time left.
But once again Sweeney had the last word for the Warriors when his clever
chip-through following a swift line-out involving Brent Cockbain and Gareth
Cooper set up Tongan winger 'Aisea Havili to score the only try of the
afternoon.
Sweeney missed the conversion and an injury-time penalty but it did not matter
as the Warriors had done enough to secure an important away victory.
