Harlequins fly-half Paul Burke single-handedly demolished a poor Montauban
side as the English club secured a comfortable trip into the quarter-finals of
the Parker Pen Challenge Cup.
Burke produced a superb display at Stade de Sapiac, and it will take a miracle
for the French club to recover and win the second leg by enough points to
qualify for the next round.
Burke set up all four first-half tries as the visitors sprinted to a 29-3
before the break, and his six goals from seven attempts kept his side in
complete control throughout.
Hooker Ace Tiatia opened the visitors' try-scoring after a Burke grubber-kick,
before winger Ugo Monye - who grabbed two tries - and England star Will
Greenwood took advantage of his chips and cross-kicks to get on the try-scoring
list.
Harlequins centre Mal Deane opened the second half in style with his side's
fifth try, before a piece of Burke magic triggered the score of the match.
The Irish international ran the ball from his own try-line and it went through
10 pairs of hands before backrower Pat Sanderson dotted down 100 metres up the
field.
Montauban scored a consolation try in the 75th minute through centre Bastien
Beyret.
