Scotland wing Kenny Logan made a dramatic return from World Cup action as he
claimed a four-try haul to give Wasps a comfortable win over Heineken Cup Pool
Six opponents Calvisano in Italy.
Logan went one better than his previous best of three tries, which he achieved
against Ulster six seasons ago, bagging three tries in the first half and one at
the end.
But while Wasps were happy to have picked up the maximum five points from the
game, which leaves them on top of their pool after two rounds, they will not be
happy at conceding five tries.
The gallant Italians made a real spectacle of the game and gave the 2,500 fans
plenty to shout about.
It was Logan's first-half hat-trick which really put the home side under
pressure with Wasps moving into a 38-14 half-time lead.
And the English club not only had Logan in supreme scoring form, England
outside-half Alex King was on target with all seven conversions and also added a
penalty for good measure to take 17 points from the match.
Calvisano scored two tries in the first half through wing Nicola Mazzucato and
centre Giovanni Raineri. Outside-half Gerard Fraser converted both.
Calvicano conjured up three more tries in the second half, from Massimo
Ravazzolo, Andrea De Rossi and Caine Elisara to match their rivals and Fraser
added two more conversions.
Their five-tries ensured Calvisano picked up their first point of the campaign
and neither French side Perpignan nor Welsh side Celtic Warriors will be
relishing their trip to the San Michele Stadium in the new year.
Wasps' victory was completed with tries from England World Cup star Joe
Worsley and wings Tom Voyce and Shane Roiser.
But Logan refused to be upstaged and he rounded off proceedings with a fourth
try after 80 minutes.
